Hey, it's Cindy 🌱 Your private chats are not sitting in Google. What does get indexed is anything you actively pressed share or publish on, and most people have more of those than they remember. Here are the searches to run and the cleanup that follows. Five minutes.

Paste them into Google and swap your real name into the quote marks. The quote marks force an exact-phrase match.

Then run them again with a phrase only you would have typed, because most shared chats never mention your name at all. Three more surfaces are worth thirty seconds each: scheduled tasks, custom GPTs and Sora generations all get their own public pages.

⚠️ An empty result is not the all-clear. Two reasons. Google not listing a page does not make it private: a share link is still a live public page that anyone holding it can open, so do the cleanup either way. And Google's quote marks are no longer strictly exact, so before you trust an empty page, click Tools, open the All results dropdown, choose Verbatim, and run it again.

Clear out ChatGPT 🧹
- 🗂️ Open your shared links. On chatgpt.com in a desktop browser, open the account menu, then Settings, then Data controls. Next to Shared links, click Manage.
- 🗑️ Delete what you don't want public. Scan the titles first, they will remind you what is inside. Then use Delete shared link per item, or open More actions and choose Delete all shared links.
- ⏰ Delete scheduled task links separately. This is the step that quietly leaves a page up. Deleting a conversation removes its link, but if that chat had a scheduled task attached, the task only pauses and its share link stays live.

Clear out Claude 🧹
Claude needs two passes, because published artifacts never appear in the shared-chats log. Do both, on a laptop.
- 💬 Unshare your chats. Go to claude.ai/settings/data-privacy-controls, find Privacy settings, and click Manage next to Shared chats. Hit Unshare on each row. There is no unshare-all, and "No shared content found" means you are clean.
- 🎨 Then unpublish your artifacts. They live in the Artifacts section of your sidebar, at claude.ai/artifacts. Open one and click Unpublish.
⚠️ Unpublishing an artifact is one way, so save a copy first. You cannot publish that same artifact again, and if it used persistent storage, unpublishing permanently deletes that stored data.

🌱 Two things worth knowing. Dropbox, Trello and Figma deliberately hide their share links from search engines, so running those and getting nothing tells you nothing: audit those from inside the account. And Notion and Google Docs each have two separate switches, public-by-link and discoverable-by-search, so check the share menu rather than trusting the search above.

Push a stale result out of Google ⏱️
- 📋 Copy a few words from the Google result first. Two or three distinctive words from the title or the grey snippet. You are about to be asked for them.
- 🔗 Submit the URL. Paste it into Google's Refresh Outdated Content tool. You need a Google account, not ownership of the site, which is what makes it the right tool here.
- ✍️ Give it the words you copied. A deleted share link returns an empty page rather than a "page not found", so Google cannot see the deletion on its own and asks you what is no longer there. Processing takes a few days.
