Photo to resale listing with Claude

Hey, it's Cindy ๐ŸŒฑ How to turn one photo into a ready-to-post resale listing, with Claude researching the price and writing the copy.

brain and hands

What this actually does

Most "AI sells your stuff" clips skip the part that matters. The magic is not the robot clicking, it is the listing being written well: a keyword-loaded title so people find it, a price based on what things ACTUALLY sold for (not hopeful list prices), and a description that answers buyer questions before they ask.

So the flow splits into two jobs:

๐Ÿง  Claude is the brain It identifies the exact product from your photo, researches real sold prices, and writes the full listing (title, price band, description, shipping line).
โœ‹ A browser agent is the hands You hand Claude's finished spec to an agent that can click, and it fills the eBay listing form and drops your photo in as the cover image.

This matters because the pricing and copy are where a listing wins or dies, and that is language work, which is what Claude is strongest at.

copy this

Step 1: get the listing spec from Claude

Open a fresh chat at claude.ai, drag in one clear photo of your item, and paste this. It does the research and writing in one go.

๐Ÿ“ the listing spec
Here is a photo of something I want to sell fast on eBay. Please:
1. Identify the exact product (brand, model, and generation if you can tell).
2. Search for what this item has RECENTLY SOLD for, not current list prices. On eBay this is the "Sold items" filter, so use recent completed sales as your anchor.
3. Give me a fair price band (a quick-sale price and a patient price) and say which condition tier you are pricing for.
4. Write a keyword-loaded eBay title (max 80 characters) using the words buyers actually search.
5. Write a clean description: what it is, condition, what's included, any flaws, and why it's a good buy.
Context: condition is used but excellent, I ship anywhere in the US for $10, and I want it gone within 7 days. Ask me anything you need before finalizing.

A few things that make the output sharper:

  • ๐Ÿ“ธ Use a real photo of YOUR item, not a stock image. Claude reads condition, wear, and included accessories straight from the picture.
  • ๐Ÿ”Ž Tell it the exact model if you know it. "Sony WH-1000XM4" prices far better than "black headphones".
  • ๐Ÿงต Answer its follow-up questions. The more it knows about flaws and extras, the more honest and clickable the description.

check the price

Step 2: sanity-check the price yourself

AI pricing is a starting point, not gospel. Take 60 seconds to confirm it against the real thing, because a listing priced wrong just sits there.

On eBay, search your item, then in the left sidebar tick "Sold items" under "Show only". Prices in green are actual completed sales from roughly the last 90 days, which is the number that matters. You can also jump straight there by adding &LH_Sold=1&LH_Complete=1 to an eBay search URL. For sales older than 90 days, eBay's Terapeak research tool goes back up to two years.

the clicking

Step 3: hand the spec to a browser agent

Now Claude has written the listing, you need something that can actually click into eBay and fill the form. You have two solid options, and both are real and available now.

  • ๐ŸŒ Claude in Chrome. Anthropic's browser extension that lets Claude see the page, click buttons, navigate, and fill out forms for you. It is available on all paid Claude plans (Pro, Team, Max, Enterprise). It asks for your approval before it publishes, purchases, or shares personal data, so you stay in control of the final "list it" click. Details: Claude for Chrome.
  • ๐Ÿ’ฌ ChatGPT Work (formerly agent mode). Opens its own browser, researches, and can fill an eBay listing form when you prompt it. Good to know its limits: it only acts when you prompt it, it does not watch your store or react when something sells, and there is no official background eBay integration. Reference: ChatGPT + eBay, 2026.

Whichever you pick, paste in Claude's finished title, price, description and shipping line, point it at eBay's "sell an item" page, and let it fill the fields. Then upload your photo as the cover image. You review the draft and hit list.

One heads-up: both agents can misclick or mis-map a field, so always read the draft listing before you publish. Treat the agent as a fast intern, not a hands-off autopilot.

3 bonus prompts to run next

Once the first listing works, these push the same idea further.

1 ยท batch the whole shelf
I'm going to sell 8 things at once. I'll paste one photo at a time. For each, give me the product ID, a sold-price-based price band, an 80-character title, and a short description, in a clean table row I can copy. Keep the same shipping and condition rules across all of them.
2 ยท the Marketplace version
Take this same item and write a second version of the listing for Facebook Marketplace instead of eBay: more casual tone, local pickup option, no shipping line, and a price set for a quick local sale. Tell me which platform is likely to sell it faster and why.
3 ยท the lowball replies
Write me 3 polite, firm replies I can reuse when buyers lowball me on this listing: one that holds my price, one that offers a small $5 discount to close today, and one that declines and stays friendly.

pick your level

How to get the most out of it

๐ŸŒฑ If you're new to this start with ONE item you already know roughly what it's worth, so you can feel whether Claude's price is sensible. Getting the loop right on one thing beats batching ten and trusting blindly.
โšก If you're a power user build a reusable pricing prompt with your standard shipping, condition wording and platform, save it, and run every item through the same spec. Then let Claude in Chrome fill the forms while you photograph the next batch. That is a real 20-minutes-per-listing to 5-minutes swing.

the honest bit

When to skip the agent

  • ๐Ÿท๏ธ High-value or fragile items (over a few hundred dollars, collectibles, anything with authentication) deserve a human writing the final listing. Let Claude draft it, but you post it.
  • ๐Ÿ” Anything touching payment or account details: the agents deliberately pause or block on sensitive financial steps, so don't fight them there. Do the account and payout setup yourself once, then let the agent handle the repetitive listing fills.
  • ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Bad photos in, bad listing out. If Claude can't tell what the item is from the picture, fix the photo before you fix the prompt.
