There are two things doing the work here, and the difference between them is what makes the whole system click.
/carousel and Claude knows to write a 5-slide carousel with a hook, value slides, and a CTA. The skill is the what to do.Go to claude.ai on your computer (this lives in the web app and the desktop app, not the phone app). In the left sidebar, click Customize. This is the control room for everything Claude remembers and everything you save. If you do not see it right away, it is the menu item near your profile at the bottom of the sidebar.
Inside Customize, click Skills. The direct link is claude.ai/customize/skills if you want to bookmark it. This is your personal skill workspace: every skill you add or build lives here, and you can switch them on and off any time.
Inside Skills, click Browse. This opens the gallery of skills the community and Anthropic have already built, so you do not have to make anything from scratch on day one. Each skill shows you exactly what it does before you add it, so you are never installing a black box.
Search the Browse gallery for the jobs you actually repeat. Good searches for a content creator:
Add the ones that fit, skip the rest. You can always remove a skill later, so be generous early and trim once you see what you actually reach for. There are also free community skill collections on GitHub (GitHub is just a website where people share free tools), so a search like "Claude marketing skills" turns up more options if the built-in directory feels thin.
This is where it gets fun. To make your own, go back into Skills, click Add (it sits next to Browse), then choose Create with Claude, and describe the job in normal sentences. Here is a worked example you can paste and tweak. This becomes your /carousel command:
Name: carousel
When I type /carousel followed by a topic, write me a 7-slide Instagram carousel in my brand voice.
Use the brand voice, audience, content pillars, and offers context files in this project.
Structure:
- Slide 1: a scroll-stopping hook (a "did you know" or a contrarian line)
- Slides 2 to 6: one clear idea per slide, short lines, no walls of text
- Slide 7: a call to action that tells people to comment a keyword to get the resource
Keep it sentence case. No em dashes. Sound like a friend explaining it, not a textbook.
That is the entire skill. Now typing /carousel claude skills writes a full draft in your style. Want a /caption skill or an /adcopy skill? Same steps, different job description. One setup each, used forever.
This is what separates a generic draft from one that actually sounds like you. A skill tells Claude what to do, but it does not yet know who you are. That is what context files are for. Create a Project in Claude (Projects in the sidebar, then add files or paste text into the project knowledge), and drop in these four short documents. Claude reads them on every chat inside that project, so every skill you run now speaks in your voice.

You open Claude. You type /carousel claude skills. Claude already knows your brand voice, your audience, your content pillars, and your CTAs, so it writes the carousel in your style, in your format, with your offer at the end. Blank page to first draft in about 2 minutes. The same thing works for /caption, /adcopy, or anything else you save. Not magic, just your workflow, saved and ready to go.
Do not try to do all of this in one sitting. Stack it.
/carousel example) for the job you do most. Get it good before you build a second./caption and /adcopy once /carousel is dialed in.
