How to turn Claude into your full-time designer

Hey, it's Cindy ๐ŸŒฑ These are the 6 free skills that turn Claude into your full-time designer, real landing pages, decks, PDF lead magnets, and ad-style screenshots, all from one chat.

These are the 6 free skills that turn Claude into a designer. Real landing pages, real PowerPoint decks, real PDF lead magnets, real ad-style screenshots, all from one chat.

Quick context first, then the install steps.

the basics

๐Ÿค– What's a skill?

A skill is a reusable instruction kit that Claude follows on autopilot. You install it once, and Claude knows exactly what to do every time you trigger it.

Think of it like saving a really good prompt plus any reference files Claude needs, all bundled into one folder. When you need it, you don't re-explain the task. Claude just runs.

where it runs

๐Ÿ’ป Where do skills work?

Skills work across the 3 main Claude interfaces. The install method changes slightly depending on which one you use.

Claude.ai (web) is the easiest. Go to claude.ai, log in, click your profile, then go to Customize, then Skills. Most official Anthropic skills are one click away in the Browse gallery, and the Add button lets you create or upload your own. Works on Pro and Max plans.

Claude Desktop (the Mac or Windows app) is the same as web. Customize, then Skills. Add what you want from the Browse gallery.

Claude Code (the terminal version) is where you install community skills (anything not built by Anthropic). The terminal is the black-screen typing window on your computer (Mac: search "Terminal", Windows: search "Command Prompt"). Claude Code is a free download from claude.com/code.

If you're on the Free Claude plan, you'll need Claude Code (which is free) for any skill, since the toggle-on-in-web option is a paid feature.

  3. Open your terminal. (Mac: search "Terminal", Windows: search "Command Prompt")

๐Ÿ“‹ The 6 skills and how to install each

1. UI-UX Pro Max

Gives Claude design-thinking ability before it generates a layout. Comes with 161 design rules, 67 UI styles, 161 color palettes, and 57 font pairings. Best for landing pages and sales pages.

Install:

  • Open Claude Code (type claude in your terminal)
  • Type: /plugin marketplace add nextlevelbuilder/ui-ux-pro-max-skill
  • Press Enter

To use it, just say something like: "Build me a landing page for my business using UI-UX Pro Max."

2. App Store Design

Generates production-ready App Store and Play Store screenshots. Designs each slide as an advertisement, not a UI showcase. Built by Parth Jadhav.

Install:

  • Open Claude Code
  • Type: npx skills add ParthJadhav/app-store-screenshots
  • Press Enter

3. PPTX (PowerPoint)

Generates real PowerPoint decks. Not slides shaped like text. Real .pptx files you can open and edit in Keynote, PowerPoint, or Google Slides. Official Anthropic skill.

Install on Claude.ai or Claude Desktop:

  • Click your profile, then Customize, then Skills
  • Find the PowerPoint skill in the Browse gallery and add it

Install on Claude Code:

  • Type: /plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
  • Then: /plugin install pptx

4. PDF

Generates real PDF documents. Lead magnets, swipe files, prompt packs, client deliverables. Official Anthropic skill.

Install on Claude.ai or Claude Desktop:

  • Customize, then Skills
  • Find the PDF skill in the Browse gallery and add it

Install on Claude Code:

  • Type: /plugin install pdf (after adding the anthropics/skills marketplace from step 3)

5. GStack

Built by Garry Tan, the President of Y Combinator. 23 slash-commands for thinking, planning, building, and reviewing. Most people only use 2:

  • /plan-design-review rates any design 0-10 and explains what a 10 looks like
  • /design-shotgun generates 4-6 design variants and lets you pick

Install:

  • Open Claude Code
  • Type: git clone https://github.com/garrytan/gstack.git ~/.claude/skills/gstack
  • Then type: cd ~/.claude/skills/gstack && ./setup
This is the most "developer-y" install on the list. If terminal commands feel scary, skip this one for now and come back to it later.

6. Skill Creator

The unlock. Builds custom Claude skills for any workflow you do more than once. Encode your brand voice, your hook formula, your ICP, your editing checklist. Once you can build skills, you stop searching for them. Official Anthropic skill.

Install on Claude.ai or Claude Desktop:

  • Customize, then Skills
  • Find Skill Creator in the Browse gallery and add it

Install on Claude Code:

  • Type: /plugin install skill-creator (after adding the anthropics/skills marketplace)

using them

๐ŸŽฏ How to actually use a skill

Once a skill is installed, just talk to Claude normally and mention what you want. Claude detects which skill to use.

Example prompts:

  • "Use the PowerPoint skill to make me a 5-slide deck on my offer."
  • "Use App Store Design to generate iPhone screenshots for a fictional habit tracker app."
  • "Use Skill Creator to turn this brand voice doc into a reusable skill for me."
You don't need to memorize exact skill names. Claude figures it out.

where to start

๐Ÿ’ก My honest take

Start with Skill Creator and PDF. Everything else can wait.

Skill Creator unlocks the rest because once you can build skills, you can encode any workflow you repeat. PDF pays for your Claude subscription on day 1 (lead magnets, swipe files, anything you'd normally make in Canva).

UI-UX Pro Max and GStack are the most complex. Don't try them on day 1.
