Anthropic's Claude Certified Architect cert (free to study)
Hey, it's Cindy π± Anthropic runs a real certification program now, and the Claude Certified Architect is the one worth putting on your LinkedIn.
btw the waitlist for AI System Club is now open! If you're keen on using AI to automate your content, video editing, job search, business or build AI agents, feel free to sign up (only if you want to hehe). Ps. the waitlist gets first dibs:)
π‘ The honest headline. Studying is genuinely free. The exam is a separate, paid, proctored test (around US$125 per attempt), booked through Pearson VUE. So this is "free to study, paid to sit", not a free certificate. Anyone telling you the whole thing is free is selling you something.
what it actually is
The Claude Certified Architect, explained
Anthropic's certification program has a few tracks (Associate for everyday users, Developer for people who build apps, and Architect for people who design Claude solutions). The Architect track is the credibility one. It has a Foundations level and a Professional level.
π― Who it's for People who design and deploy Claude solutions, not just chat with it. Think prompt design, tool use and MCP, context and memory, agent workflows, and safe rollout.
π How long it lasts The credential is valid for 12 months. Renewing inside that window is free and not proctored, so you keep it current without paying again straight away.
π If you fail There's a retake ladder: 14 days after a first fail, 30 days after a second, 90 days after a third, up to 4 attempts in any rolling 12 months. No sudden-death.
π― Start with Foundations. The Foundations level (often written CCA-F) is the sensible first target. Professional is the harder, pricier tier you graduate into later. Don't jump straight to the top rung.
the free part
Study it for $0 on Anthropic Academy
This is the bit that makes the whole thing worth your time. Anthropic Academy is Anthropic's own free learning platform, and the courses that map to this exam are built by the team behind Claude, not a third party reselling the docs.
π Sign up free. Go to Anthropic and open Academy. It's an email signup, no payment method at any point. Every course is free and issues its own completion certificate.
π Work the relevant courses. Academy has a full catalog covering everyday use, developer and technical skills, and AI fluency. For the Architect track, lean into the developer and Claude-building courses (API, tool use, MCP, agents).
πΊοΈ Get the official exam guide. Anthropic publishes an exam guide and blueprint that lists the exact domains and how much each is weighted. Download it and treat it as your syllabus. You study to the blueprint, not to vibes.
π οΈ Build while you learn. This is an architect exam, so reading is not enough. Actually wire up a small Claude project, connect one tool via MCP, and break it. Hands-on hours are what make the questions feel easy.
π‘ What "free" really covers. Free = every course, the exam guide, the blueprint, and unlimited practice on your own Claude account. Not free = the official proctored exam itself. That split is the whole point of this guide.
how to study
A study plan that actually fits your week
Be realistic about the hours. If you already use Claude often, most people need roughly 15 to 20 hours of focused study for Foundations. If Claude is new to you, plan for closer to 30 to 40 hours. Spread across a few weeks, that's very doable around a job.
π Week 1, cover the map. Read the exam guide, then watch the Academy courses that match the heaviest-weighted domains first. Don't study evenly, study where the points are.
βοΈ Week 2, build one real thing. Make a tiny project that touches prompt design, a tool call or MCP connection, and some context handling. You want to have actually done the things the exam asks about.
β Week 3, drill and self-test. Use Claude itself as your study buddy: have it quiz you, mark you, and tell you your weak spots, then go back and patch those.
paste into Claude to build your study plan
I'm studying for Anthropic's Claude Certified Architect (Foundations) exam.
Here are the exam domains and their weights from the official exam guide:
[paste the domain list and weights here].
Build me a 3-week study plan that fits about 5 hours a week. For each week:
- the topics to cover, ordered by exam weight (heaviest first)
- one hands-on task I can do in Claude to reinforce that week's topics
- 5 practice questions in the exam's multiple-choice style, with the
answers and a one-line explanation at the very end.
quiz yourself the night before
Act as a proctor for the Claude Certified Architect (Foundations) exam.
Ask me 15 questions one at a time, spread across prompt design, tool use
and MCP, context and memory, agent workflows, and safe deployment.
Mix multiple-choice and multiple-response. Wait for my answer each time,
tell me if I'm right, explain the reasoning, then move on.
At the end, score me out of 15 and name my two weakest areas to review.

How to actually sit it through Pearson VUE
When your practice scores are comfortably clearing the pass mark, this is the paid, proctored step. Anthropic delivers every certification exam through Pearson VUE.
π Register (heads-up, it's partner-gated right now). Registration runs through the Anthropic Partner Academy, and right now it needs a work email on a Claude Partner Network company domain, personal emails like Gmail are blocked at signup. If your company isn't a partner, you can't book a seat yet. Start from the Pearson VUE Anthropic page to check the current path.
π» Pick online or a test center. You can sit it online-proctored from home through OnVUE, or at a physical Pearson test center. Online means a webcam, a quiet room, and a system check beforehand.
π³ Pay the exam fee. Foundations is around US$125 per attempt (it launched at US$99 in early 2026 and moved up mid-year). The Professional tier sits higher, around US$175. Check the live price before you pay.
π₯οΈ Run the system check. For online exams, do the OnVUE system test on the exact machine and network you'll use, ideally a day early. A failed webcam or firewall on exam day is the most avoidable way to lose your slot.
π« Read this before you pay. Registration currently flows through the Anthropic Partner Academy and is limited to organizations in the Claude Partner Network, personal emails are blocked at signup, and Anthropic has not announced a public-registration date. So the studying is open to everyone right now, but the exam is not, yet. Study free today, and confirm you can actually book a seat on the official Anthropic and Pearson VUE pages before you spend a cent. Don't assume, verify.
is it worth it
Should you bother?
β Worth it if You want a credible, name-brand line on your CV and LinkedIn that proves you can design with Claude, and you'd study this material anyway. The free study alone upskills you even if you never sit the exam.
β³ Maybe wait if You're brand new to AI. Do a couple of free Academy courses first, get hands-on for a few weeks, then decide. The cert rewards people who've actually built things.
π‘ The real win is the free study. Even if you never book the exam, working through Anthropic's own courses makes you genuinely more capable with Claude. The certificate is a bonus on top of a skill you keep.
