Fix your eye contact on camera in one click (Captions)
Hey, it's Cindy ๐ฑ You can film reading off to the side, then let AI redirect your gaze so you look locked onto the camera the whole time.
btw the waitlist for AI System Club is now open! If you're keen on using AI to automate your content, video editing, job search, business or build AI agents, feel free to sign up (only if you want to hehe). Ps. the waitlist gets first dibs:)
๐ก The whole idea. Stop trying to memorise scripts. Film yourself reading notes taped next to the lens, upload the take, turn on one feature, and your eyes get corrected to camera. Delivery gets easier and the video looks more confident, for free to try.
what it actually does
Eye Contact, explained
Eye Contact is an AI tool inside Captions that reshapes your eyes and gaze in post so it looks like you were staring into the lens, even when you were reading a teleprompter or notes off to the side. It is not a filter or a crop. It regenerates the eye region frame by frame and points it back at camera.
๐ก ๐ฏ What it fixes The dead giveaway of reading: eyes sliding left or right, or drifting down to a phone. It pulls the gaze back to centre so you read as present and confident.
๐ง How it works AI detects your face and eyes, then re-renders them looking at the lens. You do nothing frame by frame, it is one toggle applied across the whole clip.
๐ฌ Where it shines Long talking-head takes, tutorials, and pieces to camera where you need a script but do not want the glassy memorised look.
๐ซ Where it struggles Big head turns, heavy tilts, or your face half out of frame. It wants stable, front-facing footage shot roughly at eye level.
the workflow
Film it, fix it, export it
๐ Put your script right next to the lens. Tape notes, or open a teleprompter or your script, as close to the camera as you can. The closer it sits to the lens, the smaller the correction the AI has to make and the more natural it looks.
๐ฅ Film the take reading off to the side. Do not force awkward eye contact. Just read naturally and keep your head fairly still and front-on. Shoot in good light at eye level, portrait for reels. You can film long, unbroken takes, that is the whole point.
โฌ๏ธ Upload to Captions. On the web, sign in at captions.ai, hit Upload video, pick a basic edit style, and Create project. On the phone app, open a new project and drop your clip in.
๐๏ธ Turn on Eye Contact. In the project editor, open Automatic Tools (on mobile it sits in the editing tools menu) and enable Eye Contact. It processes and applies to the entire clip in one go. Preview it before you commit.
โฌ๏ธ Export. Export the corrected video. On the free tier it comes out watermarked, on any paid tier the watermark is gone. From here take it into CapCut or your usual editor for captions, b-roll and the personality layer.
๐ฏ Do the gaze fix first, edit second. Run Eye Contact on the raw take and export clean, then bring that file into your normal editing app. Layering captions and cuts on before the correction just makes the AI work harder.
for long takes
The creator and editor version
If you batch film or hand takes to an editor, treat Eye Contact as the very first pass, before anyone touches the cut.
1. Film in long blocks Because you are reading, not memorising, you can shoot several minutes in one take. More usable material, fewer retakes for a forgotten line.
2. Correct the whole raw take Upload the full take and apply Eye Contact once. It is all-or-nothing per clip, so you cannot pick segments, run it on the clean take before any cutting.
3. Export a clean master Send your editor the corrected export, not the original. They cut, caption and polish from a file where your gaze is already fixed.
4. Keep the original Save your untouched take too. If a shot moves too much and the correction looks off, you want the raw version to fall back to.
optional
Let Captions do the first edit too
Captions can also auto-edit the video from a text prompt (cutting pauses, adding captions and b-roll). If you want a rough draft out of it before your real edit, direct it in plain English. This is optional, the Eye Contact fix above works on its own.
paste into the Captions edit prompt
Edit this talking-head clip for Instagram Reels.
Remove long pauses and filler words but keep my full message intact.
Add clean animated captions, one or two lines at a time, easy to read.
Add light, relevant b-roll only where it helps, not on every line.
Keep it fast but natural. Do not add loud music or cheesy effects.
๐ก Treat that as a first draft, not the final. The auto-edit is a head start. The taste layer, your hook timing, your captions style, your b-roll choices, still wins, so finish it in the editor you actually control.
the honest bit
Free vs paid, and the catch
๐ Free plan You get a small pool of lifetime credits (roughly 60 to 200, they do not refill) and every export carries a Captions watermark. Enough to test Eye Contact on a couple of videos and see if you like the look.
๐ณ Pro, $9.99/mo Removes the watermark, refills credits monthly, and unlocks the caption templates and AI tools. This is the realistic tier if you post regularly.
โก Max, $24.99/mo More monthly credits (around 500) for heavier batch filming. Scale tiers run higher again, from about $69.99/mo, for volume creators and teams.
๐ The catch Eye Contact spends credits and the free credits are one-time, not monthly. Prices and credit amounts shift, so check the live plan page before you commit.
๐ซ Do not over-correct. Eye Contact applies to the whole clip and cannot be limited to sections. If a take has a big head turn or you glance far off screen, the fix can look uncanny. Reshoot with your notes closer to the lens rather than forcing the AI to do too much.
๐ฏ Set yourself up so it barely has to work. Notes right by the lens, stable front-facing framing, eye level, good light. The smaller the gaze it has to move, the more invisible and natural the result.
