7 free AI certificates for marketers, in the order to do them

Hey, it's Cindy 馃尡 Here are all seven from the reel, with the direct link, the duration the platform actually publishes, and what each one teaches.
btw the waitlist for AI System Club is now open! If you're keen on using AI to automate your content, video editing, job search, business or build AI agents, feel free to sign up (only if you want to hehe). Ps. the waitlist gets first dibs:)
the week at a glance

Seven days, seven credentials

  1. Day 1 路 Semrush, AI PR Toolkit Crash Course. 29 minutes. Free certificate, short exam. The easiest day of the week.
  2. Day 2 路 Salesforce, Artificial Intelligence for Marketing. ~30 mins. Free Trailhead badge, two quizzes.
  3. Day 3 路 Adobe, AI essentials for marketers. 1 hour. Free certificate of completion, no exam at all.
  4. Day 4 路 Semrush, Become an AI-Powered Marketer. 1 hour 31 minutes. Free certificate, taught by an ex-R/GA managing director.
  5. Day 5 路 Google, AI-Powered Shopping ads. Free Google certification, 80% to pass, and the assessment allows 75 minutes.
  6. Day 6 路 HubSpot, AEO Fundamentals. 2 hr 20 across 7 lessons and 19 videos. Free certification course. The most current thing here.
  7. Day 7 路 Google Ads, Search Certification. Free Google certification, and the most recognised name on the list. The assessment allows 75 minutes. See day 7.
The five days with a published duration come to about 5 hours 50. The two Google days do not print a course length anywhere you can read without signing in, so treat them as exam days: Google allows 75 minutes for the assessment itself. That still makes this the friendliest of my certificate lists.

the money question

What "free" means on each of these

All seven are genuinely free, and every certificate is included at no cost. None of these is the free-to-audit, pay-for-the-certificate trap. A few are worth explaining properly, because two of them never print the word "free" on the course page itself.

  • Semrush, days 1 and 4. Says it plainly: "Enroll for free", and the certification page adds "Our online certifications are a convenient and flexible learning option for busy professionals. Plus, they're completely free!" A free Semrush account is needed to enrol and to sit the exam.
  • Salesforce, day 2. The module page shows no price and no "free" wording, which trips people up. Salesforce says it on its own AI for marketers course page instead: "Trailhead offers free AI for marketing courses".
  • Adobe, day 3. Same situation. The course page never says free. The AI training hub does, and it is titled "AI Training | Free Hands-On AI Learning".
  • HubSpot, day 6. The clearest of the lot. The label directly under the course title reads "FREE Certification Course", and the page adds "Creating a HubSpot Academy account is 100% free".
  • Google, days 5 and 7. No price on either course page. Google states it on the Skillshop hub instead: "Free Google Ads training for every kind of advertiser".
Two honest notes before you start. Day 2 issues a badge, not a certificate. It sits on your Trailhead profile and can go on LinkedIn, but call it what it is. And four of these expire after 12 months, not two. Google says "Your Google Ads certification will remain valid until the product area certification expires (one year)", and Semrush certificates also lapse 12 months after completion. So both Google days and both Semrush days need renewing a year later, which means a reminder at 11 months rather than a one-off win.

all seven links

Day 1: Semrush, AI PR Toolkit Crash Course

Open the course 路 9 lessons 路 29 minutes 路 free, certificate included

What it is. The shortest thing on the list and the reason Monday is easy. It is about using AI for the PR side of marketing: pitches, media lists and tracking where your brand gets mentioned. Taught by Mariah Magazine.

What it actually teaches. How to build a media list and a pitch with AI instead of by hand, and how to monitor brand mentions once the pitch lands. The nine lessons run between one and seven minutes each.

What you walk away with. A Semrush Academy certificate, downloaded and also emailed to you.

The honest bit. There is a short exam at the end, and a free Semrush account is needed. The course is built around Semrush's own AI PR toolkit, so following along properly means being inside Semrush rather than any AI tool.

Day 2: Salesforce, Artificial Intelligence for Marketing

Open the module 路 2 units 路 ~30 mins 路 free Trailhead badge, +200 points

What it is. The warm-up. Two units: "Get to Know AI" at about 15 minutes, then "Scale Your Marketing With AI" at about 15 minutes.

What it actually teaches. What AI is doing inside marketing work, then how that scales across campaigns rather than one-off tasks. It is deliberately foundational, which is why it belongs early rather than being skipped.

What you walk away with. A badge on your Trailhead profile worth 200 points, which you can add to LinkedIn.

The honest bit. Each unit ends in a challenge you have to pass, so it is earned rather than handed over, and a free Trailhead account is required. This is a badge, not a certificate. Salesforce is a name recruiters know, so it is still worth the half hour.

Day 3: Adobe, AI essentials for marketers

Open the course 路 5 modules 路 1 hour 路 free certificate of completion, no exam

What it is. Mindset, use cases and workflows, in Adobe's own framing. The one on this list with no exam at the end, which makes it the most relaxing evening of the week.

What it actually teaches. How to spot the high-value places AI belongs in a marketing workflow rather than sprinkling it everywhere, then building your first proper workflow around one of them.

What you walk away with. Module 5 of the course is literally titled "Certificate of completion". Finishing it shows a "Course completed" screen with a share button and a download button.

The honest bit. A free Adobe ID is almost certainly needed to save progress and personalise the certificate, though the course page does not spell that out. Make the account first either way.

Day 4: Semrush, Become an AI-Powered Marketer

Open the course 路 14 lessons 路 1 hr 31 min 路 free, certificate included

What it is. The strategy day, and the one with the most senior teacher on the list. Michael Olaye is described on the page as "Currently EVP, Managing Director at (Hero) and former EVP, Managing Director of Strategy and Innovation at R/GA".

What it actually teaches. AI across strategy, campaigns and content, rather than one tool. It is the course that helps you argue for an approach in a meeting, not just execute faster.

What you walk away with. A Semrush Academy certificate. Lesson 13 spells out the deal: "After you complete the exam you'll be the proud owner of your very own Semrush Academy certificate."

The honest bit. Semrush publishes this as 1 hour 31 minutes, so it is the second longest day of the week rather than the quick hour people expect. Some material is from the 2023 to 2024 era, so it is the least current thing here. Lesson 14 is a paid-community offer rather than part of the course, so skip it.

Day 5: Google, AI-Powered Shopping ads Certification

Open the certification 路 beginner 路 75 minutes allowed for the assessment 路 free Google certification

What it is. Your first proper Google certification of the week, and a gentler run at the format before day 7. It covers Merchant Center, product feeds and Performance Max for retail.

What it actually teaches. How Shopping ads work end to end, how to identify the requirements before you launch, and how Performance Max fits a retail strategy.

What you walk away with. A Google certification, viewable and downloadable from the My Activities page under the courses tab.

The honest bit. The pass mark is 80%, and if you do not pass you wait 24 hours before retrying. It expires after 12 months. If you do not work in retail or ecommerce this is the least relevant day, but it is also the cheapest way to learn the Skillshop assessment format before the big one.

Day 6: HubSpot, AEO Fundamentals

Open the certification 路 7 lessons 路 19 videos 路 2 hr 20 min 路 free certification course

What it is. The most current thing on this list, and the one most likely to make people at work ask how you knew about it. AEO is answer engine optimisation: getting cited inside AI answers, not just ranked in search results.

What it actually teaches. The seven lessons are "Rethinking Visibility in the Age of Answer Engines" (24 min), "Establishing Your AEO Foundation" (16 min), "Planning Content for Search and AI Visibility" (17 min), "Optimizing for AI Citations" (42 min), "Measuring What Matters in AEO" (35 min), plus a welcome and a next-steps lesson. The citations lesson is the longest and the most useful.

What you walk away with. A HubSpot certification, which HubSpot's own page tells you to add straight to your LinkedIn profile.

The exam rule that catches people. HubSpot states: "You are required to finish the exam in one sitting. If the page is closed or left, you will be locked out for 12 hours before being able to attempt the exam again." Do not open the exam to have a look. The time limit is only visible in the course sidebar once you enrol, so check it there before you start.

The honest bit. This one is product-agnostic, so you do not need a HubSpot subscription. There is a sibling course called "Implementing AEO With HubSpot" which is also free but assumes their tooling. It is not this one.

Day 7: Google Ads, Search Certification

Open the certification 路 intermediate 路 75 minutes allowed for the assessment 路 free Google certification

What it is. The big finish, and the most recognised credential on this list. It is the one hiring managers in performance marketing actually know by name.

What it actually teaches. Building and optimising Search campaigns, the Google Ads auction, responsive search ads, bid strategies, and a whole section called "Get Started with AI-Powered Search Campaigns" covering AI-powered search ads and how to create one.

What you walk away with. A Google Ads Search certification on your Skillshop profile.

What day 7 actually is. This is a certification exam, not a course you have to sit through, so you sit it when you feel ready. Google allows 75 minutes for the assessment. If you already run Search campaigns, book the assessment. If you don't, work through the study material on AI-powered Search campaigns and the auction first, then sit it. Skillshop will not show you the course length or the study modules until you sign in, so make the free account before you plan your evening around it.

The honest bit. 80% to pass, 24 hours before a retry, and it expires after 12 months like day 5. Put a calendar reminder at 11 months, because a lapsed certification on a profile is worse than no certification.

two ways to run the week

If you don't have the full week

The two-hour version Days 1, 2 and 3. Semrush PR, the Salesforce badge and the Adobe certificate. Three credentials, no Google account needed, and only one short exam between them.
The career version Days 6 and 7. HubSpot AEO and the Google Ads Search certification. HubSpot's 2 hr 20 plus one 75-minute assessment window, and these are the two names a hiring manager will actually recognise on a CV.

after the badges

Making them count

  1. 馃搶 Add each one the evening you earn it. LinkedIn, Licenses and certifications, issuer written properly: Semrush Academy, Salesforce Trailhead, Adobe, HubSpot Academy, Google. Seven entries appearing across one week reads as momentum in a way one entry never does.
  2. 馃棧 Be accurate about the type. Six certificates and certifications, one badge (Salesforce), and four of them carrying a 12-month expiry (both Semrush days and both Google days). Saying that precisely costs nothing, and it is exactly the kind of accuracy that reads as competence in an interview.
  3. 馃敤 Pair the week with one real output. Use day 1 to build an actual media list for your own brand, or day 6 to audit one page for AI citations. Turning up with a credential and a result is a different conversation from turning up with seven badges.
