5 free AI courses that give you a certificate at the end

Hey, it's Cindy ๐ŸŒฑ Every course on this list passed a strict test: the course is free AND the certificate is free, confirmed on each issuer's own page.
btw the waitlist for AI System Club is now open! If you're keen on using AI to automate your content, video editing, job search, business or build AI agents, feel free to sign up (only if you want to hehe). Ps. the waitlist gets first dibs:)
๐Ÿ’ก The trap this list avoids. A lot of famous free courses (including some big-name ones) quietly charge for the certificate. Everything here certifies you for zero dollars, no trial, no card.

the shortlist

The 5 courses

  1. ๐ŸŽจ Work Smarter with AI (Canva) Free certification, about 1 hour. Nine lessons on using Canva's AI for real work: brainstorming, data analysis in Sheets, decks, and videos, ending in a 20-question certification test. The fastest genuine credential on this list, and perfect if Canva is already your daily tool. canva.com/design-school
  2. ๐Ÿค– AI Foundations (OpenAI Academy) Free certificate, self-paced. OpenAI's own beginner course on prompting, context, and reviewing AI outputs, with a shareable completion certificate. Honest note: it's a course-completion certificate, not OpenAI's formal proctored certification, but "certified by OpenAI's academy" still reads well on a profile. academy.openai.com
  3. ๐Ÿงฑ Generative AI Fundamentals (Databricks) Free accreditation badge, about 1 hour. The best "how it actually works" course on this list: LLMs, RAG, and agents explained properly, plus a framework for picking business use cases. Pass the short quiz and the badge is yours. databricks.com
  4. ๐ŸŒ Introduction to Modern AI (Cisco) Free Credly badge, about 8 to 10 hours. Hands-on prompting, computer vision, and translation, from Cisco's Networking Academy. The badge lands after a comprehensive exam, so it feels earned. netacad.com
  5. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ CS50 AI (Harvard) Free CS50 certificate, realistically 60+ hours over several weeks. Real Python, real projects: search, machine learning, neural networks, and language models. Score at least 70 percent on every project and Harvard's CS50 issues your certificate free (the paid one is just the edX-verified variant). The hard one. cs50.harvard.edu/ai

pick one

Which one should you start?

You have one hour Canva or OpenAI. Either gets you a real credential before dinner.
You want to understand AI Databricks. One hour and you'll explain RAG better than most people posting about it.
You want the weightiest badge Cisco. The exam-gated Credly badge from a household name carries real verification weight.
You want the challenge CS50 AI. Block out the month, do the projects, and the certificate is the least valuable thing you'll walk away with.
๐Ÿ“Œ Finish one before starting two. Certificates only signal something when they're finished. Pick by the hours you honestly have this week, not by ambition.

I'm taking [course name] this week. It covers [paste the module
list from the course page].

1. Build me a day-by-day plan that fits [X hours] across my week.
2. After each module, quiz me: 5 questions in increasing
difficulty, and don't show answers until I've tried.
3. At the end, help me write a short LinkedIn post about the one
most useful thing I learned, in plain language, no buzzwords.
