Hey, it's Cindy ๐ฑ The five AI certs that get you hired, with who each is from, what it costs and who can register.
btw the waitlist for AI System Club is now open! If you're keen on using AI to automate your content, video editing, job search, business or build AI agents, feel free to sign up (only if you want to hehe). Ps. the waitlist gets first dibs:)
๐ก The whole idea. Most of these teach overlapping AI literacy, so you do not need all five. Pick the one that matches the job you want, finish it, and pair it with one real thing you built. That combination is what gets callbacks, not a wall of half-started badges.
the shortlist
The 5 certs, in order
๐ข 1. IBM AI Fundamentals (free) The best place to start, and it costs nothing. From IBM, on their SkillsBuild platform. Vendor-neutral, so it teaches how AI actually works rather than one company's product: core concepts, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, chatbots, neural networks and AI ethics, with no coding required. Cost: free. Time: most people finish it in a weekend. You get a verifiable digital badge you can post straight to LinkedIn, and the fundamentals carry directly into using Claude or Codex. Best for: total beginners who want a real, free credential this week. skillsbuild.org, AI Fundamentals · the badge
๐ 2. AWS Certified AI Practitioner The most instantly recognised AI cert on a resume, because so many companies run on AWS. From Amazon Web Services. Covers AI and machine-learning fundamentals, generative AI, responsible AI and the AWS services behind them. It is a foundational-level exam, so no deep coding. Cost: 100 USD, listed on the exam page. Format: 65 questions, 90 minutes. Time: about two to three weeks of study, with free training on AWS Skill Builder. Best for: anyone targeting the enormous share of companies built on AWS, plus data and cloud-adjacent roles. aws.amazon.com, AI Practitioner
๐ต 3. Microsoft Azure AI Fundamentals (AI-901) The credential that gets you past HR filters at big enterprises, because Microsoft badges are the ones corporate recruiters already recognise. From Microsoft. Covers AI workloads, machine learning on Azure, computer vision, NLP and generative AI workloads, now built around Microsoft Foundry. Cost: Microsoft prices this by country, in the region of 100 USD, so check the live price on the exam page before booking. Time: a week or two, and the study path on Microsoft Learn is free. Heads-up: the old AI-900 exam retired on 30 June 2026 and AI-901 replaced it, so ignore any AI-900 study guide you find. Note the exam expects some familiarity with Python syntax and Azure resources, so it is the most technical of the first three. Best for: corporate and Microsoft-shop roles, and anyone who wants a recruiter-recognised badge. Exam AI-901 · certification page
๐ฃ 4. Claude Certified Associate (Foundations) The one I would actually get, because it proves you can build with Claude, the tool I use every day. From Anthropic. It is the least technical of the Claude certs and needs no code: prompting, judging whether an output is good enough, picking the right model and product feature for a task, configuring projects and knowledge sources, and using Claude responsibly inside an organisation. Cost: 99 USD. Read the registration reality check below before you plan for it. Anthropic certification FAQ
๐ฃ 5. Claude Certified Architect (Foundations) The heaviest and the most differentiating, because almost nobody holds it yet, so it is a genuine get-ahead-early edge. Also from Anthropic. It goes after building production-grade AI systems with Claude: agents, tool use, and putting Claude into real company workflows. Cost: 125 USD. Same registration reality check applies. Anthropic certification FAQ
๐ซ Registration reality check on both Claude certs. This is the bit almost every list gets wrong. The Associate is not an open entry that anyone can sit. Anthropic's own certification FAQ states that certification is currently available only to people at Claude Partner Network organisations, and that registration requires a partner email address on a recognised company domain, so personal email addresses will not work. That applies to the Associate and the Architect alike. Joining the Claude Partner Network is free at the Registered tier, but the company registers, not the individual, and it is not instant. So: if your employer is (or will become) a partner, these are the two most differentiating certs on this list. If not, put your money into the AWS or Azure exam and take the Claude study path anyway, because it is free and the skills are the part that gets you hired.
๐ฑ The free half is genuinely open to everyone. Anthropic Academy's courses are public and free, and you do not need an Anthropic account to work through them: Claude 101, Claude Code 101, Building with the Claude API, Introduction to Model Context Protocol, Introduction to agent skills, Introduction to subagents and more. Do those, build something with them, and you have the capability whether or not you ever sit the exam. academy.claude.com
pick one
Which one should you actually do?
Total beginner, non-technical Start with IBM AI Fundamentals. Free, no jargon, finishable in a weekend, and it gives you a badge to point at while you decide on the next one.
Cloud, data, or AWS-shop target Take the AWS AI Practitioner. It is 100 USD, foundational, and it matches where a giant share of the jobs and the infrastructure actually live.
Corporate or enterprise track Go Azure AI-901. It is the vocabulary corporate job ads use, and the badge recruiters at big companies already know how to read.
At a Claude Partner Network company Do the Claude Certified Associate, then the Architect. Almost nobody holds them yet, so they read as early and specific rather than generic.
make it count
How to make a cert actually get you hired
๐ฏ Pick one, do not collect badges. One finished cert plus one real project beats five half-started courses every time. A wall of incomplete badges reads as unfinished, not ambitious.
๐จ Build while you study. Turn every concept into something small you actually make. That is the thing you get asked about in the interview, and the thing most other applicants skip entirely.
๐ Show the proof, not just the badge. Put the projects on a simple portfolio page or your LinkedIn. The cert opens the door, the work you can point to gets you the offer.
๐ง Let Claude plan the whole thing. Do not guess at what to study. Hand Claude the official exam objectives and your real schedule, and have it build the plan and the projects for you. Prompt below.
๐ง paste into Claude
I'm studying for the [cert name, e.g. AWS Certified AI Practitioner] exam. I have about [X hours] a week for [N weeks], and I'm coming from a [your background, e.g. marketing, no coding] background.
First, build me a week-by-week study plan mapped to the official exam objectives, so I only study what is actually tested, and tell me which objectives carry the most marks so I weight my time correctly.
Then, for each week, give me one small hands-on project I can genuinely build in an hour or two, so I'm learning by making instead of memorising.
Finally, turn those projects into 3 portfolio pieces I can show a hiring manager, each with a one-line description of the skill it proves and where I'd put it (LinkedIn, a simple site, or GitHub).
๐ก A cert is a signal, not a golden ticket. It gets you past the "does this person get AI" filter and gives you something concrete to talk about. Pair it with one project you actually built and a clear "here is what I can do for you", and you are already ahead of most of the pile.
